Swine flu (swine influenza) is a respiratory disease caused by viruses (influenza viruses) that infect the respiratory tract of pigs and result in nasal secretion, a barking-like cough, decrease appetite, and listless behavior.

Swine flu produces most of the same symptoms in pigs as human flu produces in people.

The disease originally was nickname swine flu because the virus that causes the disease originally jumped to humans from the live pigs in which it evolved. The virus is a 'reassortant' -- a mix of genes from swine, bird, and human flu viruses.

http://babaramdevmedicines.com/herbal-supplements.htm

Scientists are still in conflict about what the virus should be called, but most people know it as the H1N1 swine flu virus.
Most commonly, swine flu is of the H1N1 influenza subtype.

However, they can from time to time come from the other types, such as H1N2, H3N1, and H3N2.

Swine Influenza also known as H1N1 flu, Swine flu, Pig and Hog flu is a respiratory disease caused by virus commonly found in pigs throughout the world. Most usually it is due to H1N1 influenza subtype but sometimes H1N2, H3N1, and H3N2 can also be responsible.

The major difference is that the current virus has strains of bird and pig viruses in it, and humans have very low or negligible immunity to it. That is what has made it more likely to become a pandemic virus (that can cause a global outbreak) as it could without problems spread from human to human.

Swine Flu Symptoms

The first symptoms of swine flu are fever (greater than 100°F or 37.8°C), sore throat, body ache and fatigue. Some patients have also complained about running nose, diarrhea and vomiting.

Persons who have travelled abroad recently should be extra cautious and seek medical help right away if they have these symptoms.

According to the CDC, like seasonal flu, symptoms of swine flu infections can include:

1. fever, which is usually high, but unlike seasonal flu, is sometimes absent
2. cough
3. runny nose or stuffy nose
4. sore throat
5. body aches

Treatment for the Swine Flu

Treating the swine flu can be done in a couple of dissimilar ways: through antiviral drugs and through what is known as supportive care.

Antiviral Drugs—these are extremely important for high risk individuals who have acquired the H1N1 influenza or those who cannot rid their bodies of the illness and it appears to only be getting worse.

Home Remedies for Swine Flu

1. Wash Your Hands: It is believed that pig flu virus can get into the inside of your body through the mouth and nose. Regular washing of your hands, especially before a meal, with soap and luke warm water can prevent this. Alternately, you can also wear hand gloves before touching anything directly so as not to get infected.

2. Cover Your Nose and Mouth: If someone is sneezing or coughing near you, you may want to cover your nose and mouth with the inside of your palms or with your hanky. Alternately, you can wear face mask before going outside. These can prevent the virus to get entry into your system.

3. Drink Lemon Balm Tea: Experts believe that the anti-viral possessions of lemon balm can treat swine flu. You can drink lemon balm tea twice every day.

4. Chew Fresh Garlic Cloves: Garlic is careful an effective antiviral. Fresh garlic cloves (2-3) can be chewed once everyday.

Now a day all over the world people are suffering from swine flu so this disease is declared as a pandemic disease. This flu can preventable and successfully treatable by homeopathy medicine. The 2009 flu outbreak in humans is due to a new strain of influenza A virus subtype H1N1 that derives in part from human influenza, avian influenza, and two separate strains of swine influenza. The origins of this new strain are unknown. It passes with apparent ease from human to human, an ability attributed to an as-yet unidentified mutation. The strain in most cases causes only mild symptoms and the infected person makes a full recovery without requiring medical attention and without the use of antiviral medicines.

What is H1N1 (swine) flu?

H1N1 (referred to as 'swine flu' early on) is a new influenza virus causing illness in people. This new virus was first detected in people in the United States in April 2009. Other countries, including Mexico and Canada, have also reported people sick with this new virus. This virus is spreading from person-to-person, probably in much the same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses spread.

In late March and early April 2009, cases of human infection with swine influenza A (H1N1) viruses were first reported in Southern California and near San Antonio, Texas.

In the beginning it was difficult to predict the effect of this virus on general population. In seasonal flu, there are certain people who are at higher risk of serious flu-related complications. This includes people with 65 years of more age, children below five years, pregnant women, and people of any age with chronic medical conditions.

This virus is contagious but, at this time, it not known how easily the virus spreads between people. The symptoms of H1N1 swine flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people have reported diarrhoea and vomiting associated with H1N1 swine flu. Severe illness (pneumonia and respiratory failure) and even deaths have been reported with H1N1 swine flu infection. Like seasonal flu, H1N1 swine flu may cause a worsening of underlying chronic diseases.

Homeopaths are singularly confident about treating viral illness, including flu. There is a long history of successful management of serious acute infections with homeopathy, particularly the flu. Homeopathic medicine proved extremely effective in the management of the 1918 flu epidemic, and it will prove itself in any future flu pandemic, just as it does every winter in the treatment of that year's flu cases. The Spanish flu pandemic was a plague that exceeded the ravages of the Bubonic Plague of 1347 that killed a third of the European population. Worldwide the Spanish flu killed an estimated 40 million people. In some primitive cultures the death rate was 100 percent.

Fortunately, many patients in the United States had access to homeopathic medical care. A report to the American Institute of Homeopathy in 1921 documented the dramatic success of homeopathy in the worst flu pandemic in history. The death rate of 24,000 flu cases under conventional medical care in that study was 28.2 percent, while the death rate of 26,000 cases treated with homeopathy was a nearly miraculous 1.05 percent. Similarly, many homeopathic physicians each reported treating thousands of patients with very few deaths.

1The most significant flu pandemic occurred in 1918/1919. The global mortality rate from the 1918/1919 pandemic is not known, but is estimated at 2.5 to 5% of those who were infected died. With 20% or more of the world population suffering from the disease to some extent, a case-fatality ratio this high would mean that about 0.5-1% or 50 million to 100 million people worldwide were killed. In 1957, an Asian flu pandemic infected some 45 million Americans and killed 70,000. Eleven years later, lasting from 1968 to 1969, the Hong Kong flu pandemic afflicted 50 million Americans and caused 33,000 deaths, costing approximately $3.9 billion. In 1976, about 500 soldiers became infected with swine flu over a period of a few weeks.

Signs and Symptoms:

Which of these swine flu medicines to take with Homeopathy?

If the patient has mild flu like symptoms (runny nose and watery eyes etc) but no other peculiar symptom but is anxious if it might be swine flu - think about Aconitum napellus: This remedy is used for symptoms that come on very quickly and strongly especially at night along with fever and thirst alternating with chills.

If the flu patient is listless, prostrated, indifferent, has offensive diarrhoea and the parts rested upon feel sore and bruised - think about Baptisia. Influenza with marked gastro-intestinal symptoms may need this remedy, especially when there are present putrid diarrhea stools.

Homeopathy swine Flu Prevention

For at least the past 125 years homeopathic practitioners have used the medicine Influenzinum as a flu preventive. Influenzinum is a homeopathic medicine made from flu viruses. A proprietary preparation is produced each year using the flu virus strains recommended by the World Health Organization for the year's vaccine production. The typical dosage is once per week for four weeks beginning in October or later, followed by another dose three weeks later.

Between the years 1918 and 1957 the preparation of Influenzinum was derived from samples of blood or nasal secretions taken from patients who contracted the flu during the deadly 1918 flu pandemic. Subsequent to 1957 Influenzinum preparations come from a homeopathic preparation of the yearly flu viruses chosen for the flu vaccine.

The swine flu is the thing what we are mostly discussed in these days and most of the people are really interested to get knowing what this is. According to the scientific explanation, swine flu is a virus which was originated with the swine and now it has spread to the humans also. They have named this virus as Swine influenza (H1-N1) and still remain as a critical virus category. Because of that, still there are not vaccines in order to prevent from the infection and the only thing we can do is control the spread of it.

If you are really interest and concern on stopping the spread, then there few basic things you can follow through. As an example, it is always better to cover up your nose and mouth while you’re sneezing and when going near to a person who is sneezing or coughing, the reason is that this virus can be spread through the air and you need to take all possible precautions to stop it.

Also if you are feeling not well and sick, then it is always better to get the immediate medical attention as it can be the beginning of the swine flu. Since it is the beginning, the doctors can do some little more in order to keep your situation under control till they find a proper solution for the virus.

However the doctors has identified that there are no specific symptoms for this swine virus and the symptoms are same as normal flu. So if you are having heavy headache, fever , chilling, body ache, vomiting, diarrhea and any other symptom with relevant to the normal flue, it is always recommended to get medical attention and try to cover up your mouth & nose always. So it will be a great help to prevent the virus being spread.

Since this virus is originated with the swine, the doctors and scientists are still doing their investigations in order to find a proper cure for the virus. So the state government has given the full support for this process as they have understood the gravity of the situation.

Also most of the meat processors have stopped producing pork due to this situation and the market also refusing pork. So it is a good point to avoid the spread of virus and it needs to be controlled accordingly. However the farmers have taken necessary precautions to keep the swine away from the other animals and the foods available at the farm to assure the safety from the swine flu. However by the time of now, few infected people have died due to the swine flu and it is a good point to understand the critical condition of this situation. Because of that, the scientists and the doctors work with their maximum capacity in order to find a proper solution for this critical virus. So the people are awaiting a very good solution in the very near future.

Swine flu has brought a lot of fear all over the world. The word ‘swine flu’ has now become one of the most terrible words. The correct knowledge can help you protect against swine flu. Prevention is always better than cure. Swine flu is a type of influenza caused by H1N1 virus. H1N1 virus is just another type of flu virus like other typical seasonal flu symptoms.

The only difference is that the H1N1 virus has components of pig and bird influenza viruses in it, so that humans don't have any immunity to it. This has made it a pandemic virus that has the ability to cause a global outbreak because it could easily spread from person-to-person. Swine Flu H1N1 Symptoms It is very important to recognize the signs and symptoms of swine flu in the early stage. Generally the symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of the common winter influenza.

The symptoms of swine flu begin 1-4 days after being exposed to a contagious person. Sudden chills and fever are generally the first symptoms of swine flu. Temperatures usually remain between 100F and 104F for many days.

• Severe or persistent vomiting

• Fever with a rash

• Not waking up or not interacting

• Not drinking enough fluids or liquid

Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza virus that regularly causes outbreaks of influenza in pigs. The virus currently spreading among people is now generally referred to as swine flu. Swine flu viruses are usually of H1N1 sub-type. The swine flu that has spread to humans is a version of this virus. Swine influenza viruses may circulate among swine throughout the year, but most outbreaks occur during the late fall and winter months similar to outbreaks in humans.

Why is swine flu affecting humans?

The swine flu virus has changed and is now able to infect humans and transmit between them. Most commonly, these cases occur in persons with direct exposure to pigs (e.g. children near pigs at a fair or workers in the swine industry). In addition, there have been documented cases of one person spreading swine flu to others.

Symptoms of swine flu are:

Fast breathing or trouble breathing

Bluish or gray skin color

Not drinking enough fluids

Severe or persistent vomiting

Not interacting

Irritation

Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough

Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen

Sudden dizziness

Confusion

Sore throat

Nausea

Diarrhea

Treatment of Swine Flu

Mild influenza illness does not require specific anti viral medicine.

Medicines should be taken only on advice of the doctor.

Paracetamol for fever and ibuprofen for myalgia can be taken as per the advice of the dooctor.

Oseltamivir, if prescribed / advised by the doctor only.

Children need to be given paediatric preparation and dosage of the above drugs.

Medicines (other than paracetamol) available for fever, headache, body ache in general groceries, pan shops etc should not be taken as they may contain aspirin.

Aspirin should not be given for fever or body ache.

Patients should take plenty of fluids.

If fever is not responding, there is worsening of symptoms and in particular altered sensorium (confusion, incoherent speech etc) / loss of consciousness or difficulty in breathing, patient should be referred to nearest identified health facility.

Swine Flu Precaution

Precautions from swine flu for general person

Get a yearly seasonal flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against seasonal influenza.

People at high risk of serious flu complications, including young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes or heart and lung disease and people 65 years and older should get vaccination.

Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.

Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

If you are sick with flu-like illness, stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone

While sick, limit contact with others to keep from infecting them

Reduce the time spent in crowded settings if possible

Improve airflow in your living space by opening windows

Practice good health habits including adequate sleep, eating nutritious food, and keeping physically active

Precautions form swine flu for sick person

Keep the sick person in a room separate from the common areas of the house. (For example, a spare bedroom with its own bathroom, if that’s possible.) Keep the sickroom door closed.

Wear mask all the time. Three layered surgical mask should be provided by the hospital / community health worker. If mask is not readily available, mouth and nose should be covered with a piece of cloth / handkerchief / tissue paper.

avoid smoking

The sick person should clean his hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub often, especially after coughing and/or sneezing.

Unless necessary, person with the flu should not leave the home when he has a fever or during the time that he is most likely to spread the infection to others

Avoid going into the community, school, office, markets

If person with the flu needs to leave the home (for example, for medical care), he should cover the nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing

Have the sick person wear a surgical mask if they need to be in a common area of the house near other persons

If possible, sick persons should use a separate bathroom. This bathroom should be cleaned daily with household disinfectant

There is a lot of anxiety among our society concerning the Swine Flu. It wouldn't be my personal preference to catch the illness because it seems to give a hard swift punishment to the victim. This strain can carry morph into any one of the three strains of influenza. Pigs do carry influenza viruses and can adapt or morph in humans. The swine flu can also change to infect birds, causing the strain to switch genes and create a pandemic.

Like any type of new illness there are precautions people can take to prevent infection and the spread of the Swine Flu. It natural for people to cough directly into their hands. All the germs coming from the reparatory system are transported from the internal body and passed along to places, like car keys, door knobs, drinking fountains, and door handles. This can devastate the main population if one is carrying the actual Swine Flu. Create a habit of coughing into your shoulder or into your arm to minimize the spread of all germs and not just the Swine Flu.

At night it would be favorable to spray Lysol spray on light switches, toilet seats, toilet handles, freezer and fridge handles to kill the Swine flu and other bacteria. Lysol is a powerful deterrent to assist in the spread of germs, and illness. Pump bottles of hand sanitizer will help kill the germs on the surface of the skin and can assist in preventing the spread of the Swine flu. But there is a more advanced and preferred method to preventing the spread of Swine Flu.

We have been taught from an early age to wash our hands. Many take for granted the hand washing philosophy. The truth is that Lysol, hand sanitizer, coughing into the arm are all good ways but a good solid deep hand wash is the number one method for preventing the spread of germs. Hand sanitizer, and Lysol only kill the surface of where these items are applied. A deep hand wash bypasses the surface of the skin and really digs down to the grooves and pits of the hand. Ridges within the hand can be microscopic and hard to get reach for the Lysol, and hand sanitizer. A good hefty dose of liquid soap will grind down to the microscopic ridges and pours in the hand and do real damage to destroy the Swine Flu.

%26

The Swine (H1N1) Flu, just like any other virus infection, it too has its own myths. %26 Here are the 10 most common ones.%26 Don't we already have enough to worry about without imagining things? %26 Why worry about things that are not even true. %26 Here are 10 of them.

Myth #1: %26 If I wear a surgical mask, I will be protected from getting the H1N1 swine flu virus

Fact: %26 While it is possible that wearing a surgical mask may be slightly helpful in preventing the %26quot;spread%26quot; of the swine H1N1 flu, it definitely will not guarantee you safe passage. %26 However, if you are wearing the mask around others who are infected with the virus, it will help protect you from the germs of their sneezes and coughs. %26 Otherwise, it can't hurt to wear a surgical mask but just do not let yourself be lulled into a false sense of complete protection against the swine Flu virus.

Myth #2: %26 You cannot die from the swine flu virus

Fact: %26 Nothing is further from the truth. %26 You can die from the swine flu virus. %26 People across the world are dying from it everyday. %26 However, so as not to overly alarm you, it must also be pointed out that most people will %26quot;not%26quot; die from it. %26 The truth of the matter is that the H1N1 virus can prove fatal in people who have already have a compromised immune system. %26 Some people get very sick from this virus while other only report mild symptoms. %26 Please remember that it is vitally important that you take the anti-viral medication that will help reduce the intensity of your swine flu symptoms. %26 Is is also extremely important to remember that you should avoid contact with other people for at least 24 hours after your fever subsides. %26 You do not want to give it to anyone else.

Myth #3: %26 Infection from the swine flu only happens if you have direct contact with a pig.

Fact: %26 While it has been reported by the CDC that in the past, swine flu has been spread between people and pigs, this most likely occurred with pig farmers who were in constant close contact with their pigs. %26 It is much%26 more likely that%26 the current%26 swine flu is spread from human to human because of the liquid droplets and vapors that are expelled into the air from a contaminated person when they sneeze or cough. %26 If you were to come into contact with these droplets, or anything that had these droplets on it, you have a good chance of becoming infected with the virus yourself.

Myth #4: %26 We have never had an outbreak of the swine flu within the United States

Fact: %26 This is not true. %26 Throughout the years there has been several swine flu outbreaks in the United States. %26 In 1967, five soldiers from Fort Dix, New Jersey were contact in an outbreak of the swine flu. %26 All five of them became infected and one of them died. %26 However, according to the experts, some of the conditions that worsened this swine flu outbreak was brought on by the fact that they were living in a very stressed conditions and very close military quarters.%26 Also, in Wisconsin in 1988, there was a mild outbreak of the swine flu in heath care workers who worked in close proximity with their patients.

Myth #5: %26 The elderly, young adults and the children are all equally at risk.

Fact: %26 Apparently, it has come to light that ones immune system strength may not be a significant factor with the H1N1 virus. %26 But, the jury is still out on this and is not certain. It is believed that, just like the avian flu and the SARS outbreaks, it is more a factor of how your own body reacts to the virus rather than the virus itself. %26 But, it should also be kept in mind that the majority of cases investigated so far in the U.S. have proven to be rather mild. %26 It really is uncertain how the young and healthy people in Mexico were dying. %26 It has been suggested that perhaps the virus had already mutated into a stronger variation. %26 It is also important to know that the antiviral medication TAMIFLU is proving to be a highly effective treatment for the swine flu, provided you see you doctor %26 as soon as possible after getting sick.

Myth #6: %26 Eating pork will increase your chances of getting swine flu.

Fact: %26 The swine flu was named so because of a flu that pigs were getting in the Northern hemisphere. But, there is no correlation between swine flu and eating pork or pork products. %26 However, you must remember that eating any not properly prepared or partially cooked meats will certainly increase your risk of bacterial infections and viruses. No, you do not get swine flu (H1N1) from eating pork of any kind.

Myth #7: %26 The H1N1%26 virus is much riskier than the 2000-2003 SARS pandemic.

Fact: %26 This is definitely %26quot;not%26quot; true. %26 This pandemic caused 774 deaths before it was stopped. %26 That's approximately 10% of those infected with the virus! %26 The United States had 10 or fewer deaths while the remainder are believed to be in China.

Myth #8: %26 The seasonal influenza vaccination can help prevent the H1N1 virus infection.

Fact: %26 The CDC has said that the anti-viral medicines and remedies along with the seasonal influenza vaccination can help decrease the %26quot;symptoms%26quot; of the H1N1 Swine flu, BUT, it is definitely not a preventive measure or cure. %26 Only the H1N1 vaccines can do this job efficiently.

Myth #9: %26 Tamiflu will cure the H1N1 virus.

Fact:%26 This is definitely a bad myth as Tamiflu will help lessen your symptoms once you get the virus, but, it will not cure the flu.. The Tamilflu antiviral medication has been shown to decrease the length of %26 your%26 infection by a few days, but nothing else.

Myth #10: %26 If I get a fever along with the other flu symptoms, that means I have the H1N1 swine flu and I need to get to the hospital or see a doctor.

Fact: %26 If you are a normal healthy person it is actually suggested that you %26 stay home rather than risk infecting others. %26 However, if you are susceptible to asthma attacks, have a weakened immune system, or lung disease, it is suggested that you do seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Medical experts watching the Swine Flu tell us that once the flu is detected in an area, the entire community can be QUARANTINED for 6 to 12 weeks, the normal time for the Swine Flu to run its course, IF no further outbreaks are detected.

The "Swine 90 DAY FOOD SUPPLY" unit is compact enough to fit under most large beds, or stow in a large closet. It's ideal for homes, apartments, businesses, emergency operation centers, etc.

Swine Flu Emergency Readiness Kit

Being prepared for all types of emergencies should be a priority for everyone in the U.S. With more threats than ever before, we know that any number of events can be right around the corner. But lately its completely understandable that many of us probably have our mind on economic worries at the very least. But knowing what we do know about the swine Flu break out, it might be a good time for us to consider investing in our own safety just in case.

As of now there are over 1,000 deaths in the country of Mexico. Granted we are not Mexico, and we do have an outstanding heads up on the current situation, that doesnt mean that we shouldnt take precaution anyways.

But a bigger point can be made - We should be ready for any other crisis that could happen, even if the Swine Flu stays contained.

Swine Flu preparation should be just one state of preparation we should be concerned with. I would say that this Swine Flu problem should be at the least, a wake up call. Preparing for this could end up saving us in the future. If we take action now, and nothing too serious comes of the Swine Flu virus, than we will still be prepared for any future occurences that could happen.

But just because we have caught this virus earlier than Mexico, doesnt mean its going to be O.K. Honestly, we are right nesxt door to the country, and we havnt done a great job of keeping Mexican immigrants out of our country in the past. And it only takes 1 unknowing victim to spread the Swine Flu virus to a large group of unsuspecting colleagues , classmates, or total strangers in a supermarket.

I am definitely not trying to be someone that tries to scare people, but whenever a society takes something like this too lightly , things can spiral out of control in the blink of an eye. It is our responsibility to take stock of situations like these and make honest assesments.

In the coming weeks we will know for sure if the Swine Flu will become epidemic, pandemic, or nothing more than a slight outbreak. I hope that its the latter. But I really hope that we are all prepared for anything and everything.

Tamiflu is an oral antiviral drug that has been approved by the US FDA for the treatment and prevention of the swine flu virus. The new strain of the virus is resistant to most medicines and a probable cure in the form of a vaccine is yet to be developed. People who are hit by the swine flu virus must start taking Tamiflu after consulting with their doctor. Tamiflu is most effective if the treatment begins within 48 hours of developing the symptoms. People who are exposed to the swine flu virus may also take Tamiflu to prevent being affected.

What is swine flu?
Swine flu or swine influenza is a highly contagious respiratory infection caused by the influenza A virus. Though swine flu normally only infects pigs but the 2009 outbreak involves a new H1N1 type A influenza strain. It contains genes from pig, bird and human flu viruses. The swine flu virus originated in Mexico in March 2009 and within a few months it has affected thousands of people in several countries across the world. Because of it being spread worldwide, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the 2009 outbreak of the new H1N1 flu to be a global pandemic. Swine flu strains can spread fast because no one has natural immunity and so it is easy to catch and transmit the disease.

Swine flu symptoms
The symptoms of swine flu are similar to those reported in common flu. The severity of the symptoms depends on an individual’s resistance levels and on the treatment being provided. Some of the commonly reported symptoms of swine flu include -

Fever above 38ºC (100.4ºF) Cough Sore throat Body aches Chills Headache Fatigue Diarrhoea Nausea Vomiting

Symptoms of swine flu develop within 3 to 5 days after the victim is exposed to the virus. The symptoms continue for about 8 days, starting 1 day before the patient gets sick and continues until the patient has recovered. While some patients suffer mildly and recover within a week, in some patients the symptoms of swine flu may worsen, causing pneumonia and other chronic medical conditions. Thousands of people have died because of the aggravation of swine flu symptoms. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience headaches, fever or cold and if you develop symptoms after coming in contact with a person who has been exposed to the swine flu virus.

How does the swine flu virus spread?
Like common influenza, the swine flu virus may spread from person to person by coughing and sneezing by people who are already infected with the influenza virus. Healthy people may become infected by touching surfaces that are contaminated by the flu viruses and then touching their mouth, eyes or nose.

Swine flu prevention

Maintain hygiene Wash your hands frequently using soap or alcohol-based gel Cover you face while sneezing or coughing Stay away from crowds if possible. Stay home if you fall sick to avoid infecting others People who have or are suspected of having swine flu should wear a face mask

Swine flu treatment with Tamiflu
Tamiflu oseltamivir is an oral antiviral drug belonging to the class of medicines called neuraminidase inhibitors. The drug is found to be effective against both Influenza A and Influenza B virus. The US FDA has also approved Tamiflu for the prevention and treatment of the swine flu virus.

Influenza virus spreads because of a helper chemical on the surface of the virus called neuraminidase. This chemical enables the virus to spread to adjacent cells once it has entered the body. Tamiflu aims at attacking the virus so that it does not spread inside your body. The active ingredient in Tamiflu called oseltamivir binds to the neuraminidase on the surface of the virus particles and prevents it from working. By blocking the neuraminidase, Tamiflu confines the infection to a smaller area and prevents the virus from spreading inside your body. As a result, the symptoms and duration of swine flu are considerably reduced. Tamiflu works best when the treatment is initiated within 2 days of experiencing flu-like symptoms. Tamiflu oseltamivir has been shown to reduce the duration of the illness by approximately 1 day. Most importantly, the medicine helps to reduce the risk of developing flu-related complications, such as chest infections which may become severe and life threatening.

Tamiflu UK

Tamiflu oseltamivir is available to people in the UK who have been infected with the swine flu virus and to those who have been exposed to the virus. Tamiflu UK should only be used after consulting a doctor and after informing the doctor about your medical conditions, allergies and medicines you may be taking. You may also buy Tamiflu online in the UK from online clinics such as Healthexpress.co.uk. The website facilitates free consultation by a specialist doctor through an online consultation form. If the doctor finds Tamiflu suitable for you after reviewing your medical details, you will be sent a prescription for Tamiflu by email. Following this, your Tamiflu pills packet will reach your given address safely and promptly.

In Mexico in April this year, a never-before heard strain of swine flu emerge, turning ill more than a thousand Mexicans and causing the death of 68. Swine flu has spread to other parts of the world such as the US and New Zealand when affected individuals (Mexicans or tourists to Mexico), traveled to those places. Swine flu has spread so far and wide that the World Health Organization fears it will bring about the next pandemic.

This is not the first time the world is threatened by swine flu. Swine flu, which is also referred to as pigfluenza, hog flu, pig flu, or swine influenza, typically affects pigs only. In 1918, an H1N1 virus caused flu pandemic in humans. Scientists speculated that H1N1 was created either when human influenza virus crossed specie boundary and affected pigs, or the other way around.

In 1930, a study confirmed that influenza virus caused the illnesses of pigs; the viral strain was identified as H1N1. Other past outbreaks in humans include the 1976 US outbreak (number of deaths: 5) and the 1988 Wisconsin outbreak (number of deaths: 1).

2009 Swine Flu Outbreak
.
The strain that caused the swine outbreak in 2009, on the other hand, is different from other types of swine flu viruses before. It infects humans only. Pigs show no sign of infection. As such, scientists are having a difficult time establishing the origins of this new disease. The 2009 swine flu outbreak is caused by a strain that combines a single strain of human flu virus, a single strain of avian or bird flu virus, and two strains of swine flu virus.

Transmission

Swine flu virus in pig is transmitted when uninfected animals touch the nose or dried mucus of the infected pig.

Transmission of swine flu from pigs to humans occurs when a person touches an infected pig such as during animal transport or cleaning of pig pens. Swine flu is not acquired by eating pork.

Transmission of swine flu from human to human occurs when airborne viruses (brought about by sneezing and coughing) are inhaled by another person. Touching of contaminated surfaces and bringing one's hand to one's nose or mouth.

Symptoms

Symptoms of swine flu in humans are non-specific. They are quite similar to other types of influenza such as common flu and bird flu. People infected with swine flu often the following:

• fever
• chills
• coughing and sneezing
• sore throat
• muscle pain
• discomfort
• fatigue
• vomiting
• diarrhea

In pigs, swine influenza virus cause:

• fever
• lethargy
• decrease in appetite
• abortion
• sneezing
• coughing
• weight loss
• poor growth
• difficulty breathing.

Because swine flu symptoms are non-specific, a laboratory taste of nose or throat swab is needed to confirm viral presence.

How to Prevent Spread of Swine Flu

Among swine: owners should implement facility management and management. Vaccinating the pigs may also help reduce the chances of spreading of the flu.

To prevent transmission of swine flu from pigs to humans, farmers, veterinarians, and other people who come in close contact with live pigs should wear masks and gloves when working with infected pigs.

To prevent spread of swine flu among humans, the following steps are recommended or used in some countries:

• Persons with flu should be quarantined immediately
• Sick people should sneeze on tissue paper, dispose the use properly, and wash their hands.
• People who traveled to Mexico and who are family members of infected persons should be vaccinated with zanamivir or oseltamivir.
• Avoiding contact with sick people and with live pigs
• Many countries including Russia and France issued advise against traveling to Mexico.
• Always wash hands properly.

At the moment, only Tamiflu and Relenza seem to work against swine flu. Many countries have a supply of these vaccines, though not enough to curb a pandemic if the current swine flu reaches that level.
