Influenza, also known as flu, is the clinical condition that results from infection with influenza viruses. The main effects of the influenza viruses are on the upper respiratory tract, the nose and throat, with possible spread and involvement of the lungs and bronchi. The disease is highly contagious and it has the potential to cause a widespread epidemic, affecting a sizeable portion of a population at any time.

Causes:

The flu usually begins abruptly, with a fever between 102 and 106 °F. (An adult typically has a lower fever than a child.) Other common symptoms include a flushed face, body aches, chills, headache, nausea, and lack of energy. Some people have dizziness or vomiting. The fever usually lasts for a day or two, but can last 5 days.

Somewhere between day 2 and day 4 of the illness, the whole body symptoms begin to subside, and respiratory symptoms begin to increase.

Symptoms:

The most prominent of the respiratory symptoms is usually a dry, hacking cough. Most people also develop a sore throat and headache. Nasal discharge (runny nose) and sneezing are common. These symptoms (except the cough) usually disappear within 4 - 7 days. Sometimes, the fever returns. Cough and tiredness usually last for weeks after the rest of the illness is over.

    Dry cough
Fever - may be high
Headache
Muscle aches and stiffness
Sore throat
Stuffy, congested nose
Tiredness

Other symptoms may include:

    Chills
Croupy cough
Dizziness
Fatigue
Loss of appetite
Malaise
Nasal discharge
Shortness of breath
Sweating
Vomiting
Worsening of underlying illness, such as asthma or heart failure
Wheezing

Home Remedies:

Influenza treatment using Long Pepper:

The use of long pepper is one of the most effective remedies in the treatment of influenza. Half a teaspoon of the powder of long pepper, mixed with two teaspoons of honey and half a teaspoon of juice of ginger, should be taken thrice a day. This will help greatly if taken in the initial stages of the disease. It is especially useful in avoiding complications which follow the onset of the disease, namely, the involvement of the larynx and the bronchial tube.

Influenza treatment using Garlic:

Garlic is an excellent remedy for influenza. It is useful as a general antiseptic and the patient should take as much as he can bear.

Influenza treatment using Turmeric:

Turmeric is valuable in curing influenza. A teaspoon of turmeric powder should be mixed in a cup of warm milk and taken three times a day. It will prevent complications arising from influenza, and also activate the liver which becomes sluggish during the attack.

Influenza treatment using Onion:

Onion is also an effective remedy for influenza. Equal amounts of onion juice and honey should be mixed, and three or four teaspoons of this mixture should be taken daily in the treatment of this disease.

Influenza treatment using Ginger:

Ginger is an excellent remedy for influenza. A teaspoon of fresh ginger juice, mixed with a cup of fenugreek decoction and honey to taste, is an excellent diaphoretic mixture which increases sweating and reduces fever in this disease. The fenugreek decoction may be prepared by boiling one tablespoon of fenugreek seeds in half a litre of water, till it is reduced by one third.

Influenza treatment using Grapefruit:

The juice of grapefruit has proved useful in this disease as it tones up the body and the digestive tract.

Tea Remedy Combine equal parts of elder, peppermint, and yarrow. Then, steep 1-2 teaspoons of the tea mixture into a cup of hot water. It is best to drink this hot before bedtime. The not liquid induces sweat which helps stop the growth of influenza. Cayenne, cinnamon, and ginger can also be added to help either induce even more sweat, or to stimulate the body’s circulation.

Ayurvedic Medicines for the Treatment of Influenza:

1.Eucalyptus oil is used in many forms to stop the symptoms of fever, and can be used as part of the treatment for influenza.
2.Flucon tablets are available for combating the symptoms of influenza, including the cleaning of upper respiratory tracts, and the discontinuation of coughing and sneezing. These tablets have no side effects, and include a mixture of ingredients such as tinospora cordifolia, uraria picta, and a form of cinnamon. It is preferred with honey or lukewarm water. Also, there is no side effects at all.
3.Anand Bhairav Rasa is another herb that can be made into various forms to treat influenza.

My son had fever of 102.5, body aches, chills, no appetite and vomiting. Took him to the doctor and tested positive for type A influenza. What's puzzling is that after two days, his appetite was back, he felt great and even wanted to go outside to play, as if he was never sick. Was it really Type A? I thought it would last longer. He has no respiratory symptoms either.

IDENTIFYING INFLUENZA

Influenza is a common contagious disease with flu-like symptoms. Influenza is caused by a sphere or filament-shaped virus. The most problematic part of these viruses is that they keep on changing. Such mutated virus strains can adversely affect a person even though that person had immunity to another strain of the influenza virus. And the situations worsens if separate strains combine. Such a combination can be really fatal as the newly emerged virus gains in its immunity against the extant vaccines.

INFLUENZA SYMPTOMS

A person becomes rather weak during the bouts of influenza. The patient's immune system also fails to operate naturally. As a result, influenza can turn into another life threatening ailment known as pneumonia. In fact, annually approximately 25,000 American citizens die because of influenza or pneumonia. Medical reports have shown that people above the sexagenarian age group have been fatally affected by this twin disease.

INFLUENZA VIRUS

The virus responsible for causing influenza has been classified into three types, viz., A, B and C. While A affects mankind and animals, B and C targets only human beings. Mentionably, the third type of influenza leads to only to mild infection.

INFLUENZA PANACEA

The latest panacea for influenza known as the 2004 Influenza Vaccine fights is composed of one strain of B and two strains of A.

WHEN CAN INFLUENZA ATTACK?

Influenza can attack anyone at anytime. However, people are particularly susceptible to influenza during the changes of seasons. During influenza, the main affected area is the respiratory channel. When the weather turns cold from hot or vice versa, many people irrespective of colds do fall prey to influenza. The disease can easily flow from one person to another. The primary routes for its transmission are sneezing and coughing. Influenza can also spread if one uses the clothes particularly the hanky or the towel used by an influenza affected person.

INFLUENZA AILMENTS

Influenza is accompanied by clogged nose, headache, or at times running nose, temporary pain of joints and running body temperature. Mentionably, influenza and its symptoms disappear within three to four days whether one takes medicines or not. However, influenza can also be a silent stalker. Under such circumstances, it is always advisable to try and cure influenza naturally. If the symptoms continue for a longer period and show little signs of disappearing, do consult a doctor.

CURING INFLUENZA

The best way to cure influenza is to go for hot foot baths, and gargle if one suffers from sore throat. Many people take a tea spoonful of raw and unadulterated mustard oil to get back the normal voice. If one experiences mild fever, one can simply take the precaution of not bathing in cold water. Keep the body and the feet warm. Using cold ointments on the back side of the body, armpits, feet and on the chest besides around the nostrils also provide relief by means of the strong evaporation of those ointments.

ALTERNATIVE TREATMENTS OF INFLUENZA

It has also been found that homeopathic treatment is the most ideal strategy to cure influenza. This is especially true with children. Homoeopathic medicines can also be taken by the adults. The homoeopathic treatments give the best results in cases of adults who are teetotalers. Nonetheless, these medicines are cheaper than the allopathic ones. Besides, the homoeopathic medications do have any side effects although they take some time to deliver the goods.

BIRD INFLUENZA

Nowadays, influenza has taken another deadly form. It is commonly known as the avian influenza as the virus gets transmitted to human beings from birds including poultry( hen, duck, turkey). The cause of this type of influenza has medically proved to be the H5N1 virus. Intensive researches are on to find a viable vaccine for avian influenza. The H5N1 virus has been found to be affecting people mainly in Europe and Asia.

In most of such cases, avian influenza spreads from the avian species to one person. To obviate any possibility of the H5N1 virus spreading to man, one must stay from making any contact with the birds during any avian influenza epidemic.

Symptoms of bird flu in humans can be similar to those resulting from typical flu-like symptoms, like fever, cough, sore throat and muscle aches. Other severe symptoms are eye infections, pneumonia, severe respiratory diseases, and other severe and life-threatening complications.

Belonging to the list of the most common diseases affecting mankind is flu. And oddly enough, every time it strikes humanity, it does so with a force even greater than its previous rampage. One reason for this is the virus that causes flu mutates and displays amazing abilities to cope up with medications. Nonetheless, a flu cold is something that is not really to be feared especially since modern and upgraded medications are constantly being discovered, which results to better influenza treatment. It must be stressed however that in seeking flu treatment, one should not easily purchase just about any over-the-counter flu drugs because many of these are no longer able to work against the flu virus. When seeking the best flu medication, you must consider only the standard through which other flu drugs are measured against: Fluendz.

One of the latest discoveries by scientific and research teams worldwide in the aspect of influenza treatment is that many medications that are taken orally are bound to fail in the first place. This is because such medications are in capsule or tablet form that takes time to melt and for their healing ingredients to enter the bloodstream. Moreover, because they are taken orally, such medicines need to overcome the very hostile environment in the digestive system that can potentially kill off the active ingredient in them. This is why a flu cold medication must be homeopathic because a homeopathic medicine comes in very minute particles, which make it easy for the body to absorb it.

When it comes to homeopathic flu medicine, there is nothing that can match the efficiency of Fluendz. Considered as the best flu medication right now, Fluendz was developed with the failure of most previous flu medicines in mind. A major innovation is that Fluendz comes in a spray form, which results in the release of very fine vapors that the body can easily absorb. Moreover, the medicine is prescribed to be taken sublingually. The medicine comes with an administrator for spraying it beneath the tongue. This is because the area beneath the tongue has numerous blood vessels that facilitate the easy and quick absorption of the medicine. This is the finest flu cold treatment out there that uses this innovative technique of administering it to influenza patients.

So when you are worried about the flu symptoms, especially when they come in bunches that positively points to the onset of influenza, worry no more because Fluendz is now here. It is one of those flu medicines that is safe not only for kids but for adults as well. So once the symptoms of flu cold are detected, be sure to immediately buy Fluendz from the nearest drugstore. Unlike other medications for flu, it can be taken immediately without any worries for possible side effects; otherwise doctors will not highly recommend it to influenza patients. Its efficiency and having no side effects to the body are the results of painstaking research conducted by competent scientists behind its manufacture.

H1N1 Influenza signs and symptoms involve a fever, runny nose, slight cough, sore throat, physical aches, headaches, fatigue and some chills. Other folks may perhaps also experience diarrhea, upset stomach or vomiting.

A lot more extreme indicators are centered around respiratory illnesses and symptoms without the feeling of fever. Like other viruses, deaths have been contributed to this kind of virus.

For those that experience extreme signs or symptoms, anti-viral drug treatments might be subscribed by your health care provider.

Natural Self Treatment

Fill your body with lots of rest, fluids and light foods. Other than anti-viral medications, you will find no other treatments that may enhance the recovery time. Building up immunities prior to a viral attack will present your entire body the resources to recover quicker or lessen the signs and symptoms in half the time.

Infection Rate

Those that carry the virus can infection others from day 1 to day 7. It's best to stay away from others when recovering from the H1N1 virus. As with most viruses, an individual can still feel the signs and symptoms after seven days, yet the ability to transmit the virus is greatly reduced.

It is vital to get to a physician within the first 24 to 48 hours. It is during this time that anti-viral medicines are the most efficient. Most of the time a fast infusion of fluids and medicine can give the entire body the edge it needs to make it through a serious reaction to influenza. It doesn't take lengthy amount of time for the body to respond to medicines. In rare instances a man or woman may perhaps be hospitalized for a few days for respiratory difficulties associated to influenza.

Even though the indicators of a flu or influenza occur for several weeks following first contact with the virus, it doesn't mean the person is able to infect other people. It does take time for the system to recover fully and return to its original healthy state. Swelling, cough, a tried feeling may occur for weeks. If signs persist, it is important to see a medical doctor to check for other complications.

Keeping a strong immunity against infection is very important to a quick recovery. The stronger the immune system, the better off a person will be when they come in contact with a virus, bacteria or cold. An ounce of prevention goes a long way.

Influenza - Prevention And Treatment

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a highly contagious viral infection of the respiratory tract. Often occurring as an epidemic, the flu results from three kinds of orthomyxoviruses: influenzae types A, B, and C. Type A viruses tend to be the most virulent, and constantly mutate into new strains, making permanent immunization against them difficult. Type A influenza is most often responsible for large epidemics. The type B virus, generally a less severe variety, mutates occasionally, causing smaller, more localized outbreaks. Type C, which causes only mild illness resembling a common cold, is very stable virus. During an initial bout with a type C infection, the body produces antibodies that confer immunity against future infections. Symptoms of all types of influenza usually appear following an incubation period of one to four days after initial exposure, and run their course over a period of seven to 10 days. The elderly, the very young, and the chronically ill are at increased risk of potentially serious complications such as bacterial bronchitis and pneumonia.

Prevention

A yearly flu vaccination is recommended for people at high risk of developing complications, including those with chronic heart or kidney disease; chronic lung disease (including asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, tuberculosis, or cystic fibrosis); diabetes mellitus or other chronic metabolic disorder; severe anemia; and depressed immunity due to diseases such as AIDS or medical treatments such as chemotherapy for cancer. Women who will be in the 2nd or 3rd trimester of pregnancy during influenza season. Health care workers and people over age 50 or who live in a nursing facility are also at heightened risk. The vaccine should be administered before the start of flu season, between October 1 and the middle of November. Avoid close contact with those who are infected. Amantadine or rimantadine may be prescribed by a physician during local influenza epidemics, to be taken daily if high – risk patients have not been immunized for that year.

The Treatment

Get plenty of bed rest, preferably in a warm, well-ventilated room. Take over the counter pain relievers to ease aches and reduce fever. Drink plenty of fluids to keep mucus secretions thin and easy to expel. Drink warm liquids or gargle with salt water to alleviate sore throat. A cool mist humidifier may help to thin mucus. For the elderly or those with a serious chronic illness, the antiviral drugs amantadine or rimantadine may help reduce the severity of symptoms from type A infections, if administered within 24hours of onset. Zanamivir or oseltamivir can be used to treat type A and type B infections. To be more balance in our approach we have to explore the alternative influenza – prevention and treatment. The recommendations are you have to consume plenty of fluids, especially fresh juices, herbal teas, soups and quality water, to prevent dehydration and help flush out the body. To shorten the length of the flu, go on a liquid diet emphasizing hot herbal teas and hot broth for one or two days. Take hot chicken or turkey soup. This is grandmother’s old remedy and it is still good today. Add a bit of cayenne pepper to help prevent and break up congestion. Avoid dairy products mucus forming foods and sugar. The other alternative influenza – prevention and treatment is so controversial but is highly effective in treating influenza and even all diseases such as cancer and aids. This treatment is suppressed in the U.S. but is now gaining prominence and respect to a lot of people and also in the scientific world and not to mention that most European doctors are already using this one. The alternative influenza – prevention and treatment as provided by the “one minute cure for all diseases” has gained the respect of a lot of people. The claim is so simple; the treatment is at the cellular level and research showed that if you deprive a cell 35% of its required levels of oxygen for 2 to 3days, the cell would become acidic, malignant and cancerous. Most people don't know is that lack of oxygen is not only the underlying cause of cancer but is also the cause of most diseases. When the body is supplied and delivered with abundant and enough amounts of oxygen, no cancer cells, viruses, harmful bacteria, toxins, pathogens and disease microorganisms can survive because they cannot survive in a highly oxygenated bodies.
